Sisters

It’s takeout night
and mom’s not home

in sync, we
lower into
opposite chairs,
somehow eased by
the emptiness of the remaining six

we grasp our forks
with the same awkward manners
and breath out
similar sounds

I ponder if perhaps
seven chairs sit empty

and I sit alone,
raising silverware
across from a mirror.
